The Lawns Report - The Nightshift Team Venue Analysis

Fairly early on after a briefing by the venues two assigned psychics on matters of safety and proposed schedule, we were free to wander the venue. Wayne took this opportunity to follow his nose and see what he could feel. It was during this little tour that Wayne picked up on a dark presence in the bar cellar.

The Lawns cellar

This unnerved both Ros and Lee. The sensible observation was that the cellar was dark, full of strange noises and probably giving off quite a bit of EMF. Wayne maintains that this didn’t explain what he was sensing. We had no way of doing baseline EMF readings as the equipment was not made available by the organisers and at this point we did not have any equipment of our own. We made a hasty exit and Wayne maintained (later) that whatever it was followed us upstairs. This little nugget of information made Ros and Lee a little apprehensive. Wayne also picked up on something present in the ‘chapel’ room during this walk around.

As midnight approached we gathered in the large room that used to be a chapel on the first floor. It is approximately 30 x 50ft including a raised stage area. We gathered in a large circle and the psychics led a session encouraging spirits present to push members of the circle back and forth into or out of the circle. I think anyone with a modicum of common sense would realise this is very suggestible and we all started to rock on our heels. More psychology than psychic and everyone got caught up with that one.

Whilst in the chapel we then started calling out and a name of ‘Charles’ was raised by one of the psychics. It was during this session that the most important experience occurred. Wayne was in the circle, Lee to his right with Ros to his left and a lady (Becky) to Ros’ left. ‘Charles’ took a shine to Becky as she reminded the spirit of his own daughter (from one of the psychics). A ‘yes’ / ‘no’ dialogue was established with ‘Charles’. One knock for ‘yes’, silence for ‘no’. The sound was placed about 8ft behind Becky, Ros and Wayne. On reflection later, Ros suggested it sounded like a ping-pong ball bouncing on the parquet wooden floor. (Knocking analysis)

The Chapel room

Wayne suggested that it moved around between the three of them and he thought it resembled the sound of a walking stick or cane being rapped on the floor. Wayne felt that the sound was firmer and more definite when near him. The suggestion by Ros was that maybe because he was male ‘Charles’ felt more confident that his actions wouldn’t frighten him but would disturb the women in the group. Wayne also got very cold which was felt by both Lee and Ros. Unfortunately, the dictation machine was not running so we have no evidence to back up this experience. Historical analysis of 'Charles'

Later we spilt into smaller groups. Wayne, Lee and Ros were sat on chairs in the ‘chapel’ room away from a table where Becky and others were communicating with ‘Charles’ via glass turning. It was during this session that the dark spirit from earlier made its presence felt. Wayne started feeling cold and began channelling the dark spirit. Lee was to Wayne’s left, Ros to Wayne’s right and both noted that the temperature had dropped and Wayne was cold to the touch. Lee tried to establish if it was radiated cold from a window or a draft. We were too far from the nearest window and no discernable draft could be found. The dialogue from Wayne’s channelling can be heard in the appropriate section of ‘Wayne’s Weird World’ and the digital recording part of the Lawns report.

The area in the 'chapel' where lights were noticed

Lee, who is usually quite scientific and level headed started to feel quite unnerved and became convinced that something was prowling around behind and in between Wayne and himself. The experience was unnerving but fascinating, however one of the psychics was worried for Wayne’s safety and asked whatever had possessed him to ‘step back’. Wayne was then moved from the room to recover. During this session we also noted the intermittent appearance of lights near the table and fireplace at the opposite end of the room. There were other instances where something tried to channel through Wayne but nothing as notable as the above session. Wayne's visitor analysis

The lift room

The vigils began in the ‘Lift Room’ where the spirit of a young man is alleged to reside. There were far too many people (approximately 50) and some joker decided to hit the lift door and make everyone jump. The dictation machine was rolling but given the large number of people anything recorded could not be assigned as EVP due to possible involuntary noises or comments from the people present. The spirit of a man called Jacob is alleged to be in this room and was killed (by the lift?) in that room.
Lee and another guest called Darren tried a lone vigil in the ‘Lift Room’. It wasn't until they had almost given up that they got the sound of two knocks asked for on the dictation machine. It sounds like the machine itself was tapped as neither Darren nor Lee heard or reacted to it. Lee thought it could be the sound of him picking up the dictation machine but this was dismissed as you can hear that happen later in the clip. Lift recording

The bar area

In the bar area we felt a shifting cold spot that seemed to be moving up and down the length of the bar area. There were quite a few windows in this room and we established that there were coolers behind the shuttered bar that we could hear switching on and off. The area was known to have the spirit of a matron like character and a male that are known to move from a now none existent door down the length of the bar area into what would have been side rooms containing patients (in the area where the bar is now situated). Lee timed the presence of the cold spot with and extended hand in one area in front of the bar and it did seem to have the regularity consistent with someone walking the length of the bar (we timed that too). Given the cool air could be coming from the bar or windows we suspect we were making things ‘fit’ the story. We did however, get some impressive orbs photos in this area. photo analysis

Some glass turning by another group in this area revealed the presence of 14 separate spirits nine of which were horses (but this revelation was after the story of a phantom coach and horses was told). The answers were also inconsistent and contradictory. Lights were seen in the small windows near the ceiling of the ballroom/restaurant area. This was debunked successfully as reflections caused by stray torch light bouncing off the walls of adjoining rooms on the first floor.
We had lots of personal experiences but little evidence to corroborate it. The venue didn’t disappoint but the poor organisation of the vigils host and large numbers of people did spoil the experience somewhat.
